Contents

Have you ever wondered what a pallet is? Today, Sumiyaka will explain it to you.

What is a Pallet?

Pallet is a platform for stacking goods, making transportation and storage more convenient. It has slots for forklifts, hand lifts, and stackers to insert and lift it. This allows lifting multiple boxes at once without manual labor. It can be lifted to a considerable height, facilitating storage on racks and optimizing warehouse space. Additionally, it eases the process of moving goods during transportation. Therefore, pallets are widely used in manufacturing, transportation services, warehouses, electronics, and various other industries.

Types of Pallets by Material

Plastic Pallets

Pallets made from plastic are lightweight, durable, moisture-resistant, and termite-proof. They are easy to maintain and clean, with a quick production time. Available in various designs and prices, they suit the needs of food manufacturers, medical equipment manufacturers, electronics manufacturers, those emphasizing cleanliness, and general manufacturers for storage and transportation.

Wooden Pallets

General-purpose pallets, made from readily available and easy-to-produce materials, are cost-effective and repairable. They are strong, sturdy, and suitable for consumer goods, general product manufacturers, warehouses, packaging factories, and general businesses.

Steel Pallets

Steel pallets, known for their strength and durability, are suitable for storing goods in dry environments but are less suitable for transportation due to their weight.

Paper Pallets

Pallets made from paper are lightweight, easy to transport, and cost-effective. They are often modular and can be disassembled and assembled. Available in various qualities and strengths, depending on the paper type, material of the block, and production methods.

Other Criteria for Classifying Plastic Pallets

  • Medium Pallet: Has a moderate weight capacity and is commonly used.
  • Heavy Duty Pallet: Designed to carry extra heavy loads and requires special handling.
  • Hygiene Pallet: Heavy pallet with a smooth surface, without any holes or grates, suitable for environments that require extra cleanliness.

Classification by Plastic Pellet Purity

  • Virgin: Made entirely from new plastic pellets.
  • Compound: Made from a mix of new and recycled plastic pellets.
  • Recycle: Made entirely from recycled plastic pellets.

Classification by Pallet Design

  • Window Pallet: Has beams on the bottom, making it incompatible with Power Pallets or Stackers.
  • Skid Pallet: Has no beams on the bottom, also known as the E pallets.
  • Reversible Pallet: Top and bottom are the same, allowing for reversible use.
  • Nestable Pallet: Has stackable blocks. Doesn’t take up space when unused or being transported.
  • Spill Pallet: Includes grids to prevent spills, suitable for chemical containers.

Classification by Plastic Pallet Material

  • HDPE: Plastic pallets made from HDPE are flexible and resilient, suitable for cold storage.
  • PP: Plastic pallets made from PP are strong and rigid but may not be suitable for low-temperature environments.
